NBC DONATES 21 DESKS AND CHAIRS TO MWANANYAMALA KISIWANI PRIMARY SCHOOL

Mwananyamala Kisiwani Primary School in Dar es Salaam is the latest school to benefit from the National Bank of Commerce (NBC)’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The donation of 21 tables and 21 chairs to the school was made by NBC’s Audit department staff in the city.  Commenting on the donation, Severin Ndaskoi- NBC’s Head of Audit said, “We are excited to be able to donate these desks to Mwananyamala Kisiwani Primary School. NBC has for some time now been assisting schools around the country improve their learning environments by providing books, desks and other material; our aim is to see more children attend school comfortably as this will help them concentrate on their studies better.” NBC’s CSR programme has so far enabled schools and other higher learning institutions around the country to access educational equipment which to most of them would otherwise have been almost impossible.  ”We are confident that this school will make good use of these tables and chairs so that future generations of students can also use them” added Mr. Ndaskoi. In this programme, staffs from various branches countrywide participate in community activities in the very areas where the bank conducts its business.

NBC Hands over Secondary School Library Building in Lindi
13 Dec 2012: THE National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has this weekend handed over a library building to Angaza Secondary Schoolís administration in Lindi Region as part of the banks Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives. Speaking during a brief ceremony held at the schools compound, NBCs Managing Director Mr. Lawrence Mafuru said that education is one of the banks priority areas in its social responsibility agenda. Six library buildings with a total cost of TZS 70m/- have already been renovated at different secondary schools in Tanzania and will soon be handed over to the respective schools administrations.

08 Oct 2012: On 19th July 2012, the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Commerce announced that Mr Lawrence Mafuru, the Managing Director of National Bank of Commerce had been requested and accepted to go on leave in order to allow investigations into irregularities allegedly perpetrated at the Bank. The allegations which originated from a whistleblower report raised issues around irregular governance practices, fraud and corruption against the NBC Executive Management team. Driven by the values of the Bank and need to maintain high standards of good corporate governance the Board of Directors of National Bank of Commerce initiated thorough investigations into all the issues raised by the whistleblower with a view of establishing the validity of the allegations for appropriate actions to be taken.


NBC DONATES NEW MOBILE CLINIC
28 Sep 2011: At least 225,212 people, mostly women and children in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam, have received medical care through mobile clinics, deployed by the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) since 2002. The Bank's Managing Director, Lawrence Mafuru said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the clinics were also useful during the Medical Association of Tanzania Health Camp in the Lake Zone Area; the 2003 Africa Malaria Day' the 2007 Mass Drug Administration against Filarlasis (Matende) and also during the Gongo la Mboto bomb blasts when the Clinics were on site providing medical care.


NBC SUPPORTS THE MEDIA COUNCIL OF TANZANIA
05 May 2011: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has supported the Media Council on its Excellence in Journalism Awards (EJAT) event that took place on 3rd May 2011, on World Press Freedom Day. NBC sponsored the Economic and Business Award in Print and Electronic media segment at TZS 5,000,000.


NBC DONATES 11.5 MILLION TO KCMC
07 Mar 2011: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) through its Corporate Social Responsibility Fund has donated TZS 10 million to Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Moshi recently. The donation was made at the hospitalís 40th Anniversary fundraising dinner whereby Archbishop Alex Malasusa was the Guest of Honour.
